Slicing is one of the most common problems golfers face. There are a couple of reasons why you are slicing your ball. To learn how to cure your slice, you have to figure out what your problem is. The right grip, stance, and swing are needed to eliminate the slice.

First, start with your grip. You want a grip that is neither too strong or too weak. It’s the weak grip that causes a slice, because this results in an open club face. To fix your grip, position your hands so that your left hand (right hand if you are a lefty), faces the target. Your other hand should face the opposite way.

If you still slice after you adjust your grip, your golf stance may be your problem. Your feet should be shoulder width apart. Your shoulders should be in line with your target. Your right foot needs to point ahead while your left foot should point slightly to the left. At a driving range, practice hitting balls with the correct stance and grip to see if your slice improves. Make slight adjustments to your stance until you are confident that you have found the proper form.

The last way to cure your slice is to fix your swing. Start with your backswing. At the top of your backswing, the shaft should be over your shoulder. The position of your clubface can also create a slice. While you want the clubface open, it should be that way because of the movement of the torso and shoulders. You should not twist your hands or wrist to achieve this.

The backswing is more likely to cause a slice than a downswing, but you should check to see if you have a proper downswing. A good downswing starts with your hips. A follow through is essential.

Even after you figure out what is causing your slice, you’ll need practice to fix it. Don’t be tempted to fall back into what feels right–that’s what causes your slice. If you keep practicing with a proper grip, stance, and swing, you’ll find that the proper way will feel natural.

By: Matt Menden

About the Author:

The grip is one of the absolute fundamentals of the golf swing. It is the only point of contact your body has with any part of the club and so having the grip is crucially important from the outset. You may have the best posture, stance and have a great swing but if there are fundamental flaws in your grip then the result is sure to be erratic. You may have heard of some of the professionals having very unorthodox grips such as being able to see 4 knuckles on their left hand but these are professionals and they know how to compensate for these things. As an amateur looking to lower their handicap you should aim to have a completely orthodox grip. If, like many golfers, your problem is how to correct a golf slice then perhaps you should go back to basics and check your grip.

As I said, the grip does not have much to do with the swing plane of the club and so your swing plane may be perfect and yet you are still slicing it. The thing to note is that the direction the clubface is facing at impact can very much be influenced by your grip. The cause of your slice may be an open club face at impact and this could be caused by a poor grip. So, how can you ensure you have a proper grip to help you find out how to correct a golf slice.

Gripping a golf club can be done effectively but differently by different golfers. People find grips that work for them and the shape and size of their hands. However, when it comes to slicing, very distinct faults can be identified in someone’s grip. Usually an open face at impact is caused by having either or both of the hands too much on the left side of the grip handle. So, in trying to find out how to correct a golf slice there are some simple checks you can do to check your grip is correct. First take a normal setup as if you are about to strike a shot and check how many knuckles you can see on your left hand. If you can see at least 2 then your grip is most likely not the reason for your slice. A similar check is to ensure the V shapes formed by both your hands on the grip both point towards your right shoulder.

Taking a solid, neutral grip is one of the first steps to hitting straight shots. If you’re a slicer and your grip fails one of the checks then you should certainly take a closer look at how you grip the club.

By: Lewis Freeman

About the Author:

Slices and pulls come from the same basic swing fault. Each time, the club head approaches the ball on an out-to-in swing path. Most golfers know, this is one of the most common errors in golf. The easiest way to know if your club is travelling from out to in, just look at your divot. When the divot time after time points to the left of the target, you are swinging outside in.

Anyhow, whether the ball slices or pulls is simply a function of the clubface. If the clubface is closed or even square at impact then the result will be a pull. If the clubface is square at impact, why is the ball headed left? Because of the club path moving from outside to inside. If the face is open at impact, the result will be a slice with a severe clockwise spin.
However, look at the club face to see where the ball
has left a mark. This will give you an idea where you
hit your impact according to your actual swing.

IN PRACTICE

That said, the slicing stroke for most golfers is most deeply felt in the longer clubs, mostly the woods. These straight-faced clubs are much less tolerant to an outside in path and the ball spins very much to the right.

ADVANTAGE WITH HIGHER LOFT

The greater loft of some drivers encourages backspin. This backspin tends to negate the slicer’s sidespin. Result? The ball will go straight but less distance.

SUGGESTIONS HOW TO FIX SLICE IF YOU CAN

To achieve the objective, there are five known tips. Try any of them. You will probably make some errors; otherwise use my technique according to your actual swing

TIPS #1: Start with your grip.

Shift both hands to the right on the club until you can spot three knuckles on the back of your left hand. Make sure, however, that the “V” formed by the thumb and index fingers of both hands are parallel. This grip technique will allow you to rotate the clubface and balance it up.

TIPS #2: Body alignment.

Align your shoulders, hips, knees and feet to the right of the target. Then, move the ball back slightly in front of your stance. This will help you creating a more inside to outside swing path.

Again these tips are easier, however if you are not comfortable, many people use baseball grips and it works because the V is still align.

TIPS #3: Try straightening your right arm earlier on downswing.

Picture yourself standing on a clock face. The ball is bang in the middle of the clock. Twelve o’clock is your target, with your feet aligned parallel. Feel as if you can swing the club from 7 o’clock to 1 o’clock. Or, from inside towards outside. However at time of
impact, both hands are facing down parallel each other. Try the exercise by stopping each time 1 inch before the ball impact to see if your hands are place properly and look at the club face to see if it is square.

TIPS #4: Keep your right arm straight on the impact.

As the club swings through contact, sense your club head closing as you insistently move your right arm over your left forcefully squaring up the clubface.

TIPS #5: Hitting shots from a side hill stretch out will also help.

Place the ball several inches above the level of your feet. Hit shots from there. Observe how this promotes a more rounded swing plane and a more controlling in-to-out path.

Hope this will help understanding much better your golf game.

By: Robert Petrucci

About the Author:

Hybrid golf clubs are becoming ever more popular with amateurs and professionals alike. Designed to replace “long” irons, the hybrids make those difficult 3, 4, and 5 iron shots far easier. They look different than irons, they feel different so it is natural to ask the question how to use hybrid golf clubs.

First the question is what makes the hybrid different than an iron. Just looking at one you can tell that there is far more mass behind the face, it’s wider and most importantly, the center of gravity is much lower than an iron allowing an easier launch of the ball. Every year, major manufacturers come out with improvements in club stability and club face. This year Taylormade came out with a single hybrid that allows you to dial in the shape and distance of the shot. If this club proves viable, then it will be the only hybrid you need in your bag.

How well do hybrid golf clubs work?

Why is the hybrid so much better than a long iron. The short answer is versatility. They can be used to replace fairway metals and deliver much more predictable and accurate shots than a fairway club without giving up distance. They are far more effective out of the rough than an iron because of their mass and heel design which allows for smoother contact with the grass. You can even chip with these clubs using a putter stroke!

So how do you use a hybrid golf club?

That depends.

If you are using the club as a replacement for a fairway metal, you’re going to use the same sweeping type swing plane that you would use for a 3 wood. This will give you the same distance as a fairway metal but will give you greater accuracy because and forgiveness. Why? Because fairway metals have a slight curve in their face while the hybrid is flat. If you hit on the curve of a fairway metal you will end up with a slice or a hook. The flat face of the hybrid gives you a bigger “straight” hitting surface.

Understand, because you are using a sweeping swing plane the ball is likely to run after it lands.

If you’ve pulled out a hybrid instead of a 4 iron, and you’re looking for a long shot that will stick when you land, then address and strike the ball the same way you would if you had an iron in your hand rather than the hybrid. Basically this means striking down on the ball to get a high launch with backspin.

You can play with the hybrid and get a variety of distances and shot shapes out of the same club. Here’s an example:

At the course that I play regularly at, there is a par 3 that plays 160 to 185 yards. Understand I’m a senior golfer and 185 yards was too far for my 7 wood and too close for my 3 wood. Before I got my hybrids, I had to use a three quarter swing with my 3 wood and I usually wound up rolling off the green.

Now when the flag is at 185, I take out my hybrid equivalent of a 4 iron and play it like a 3 wood. I place the ball a little forward in the stance and use a sweeping swing. It lands in the center of the green and runs to the back.

When the pin is in the center, I place the ball in the middle of my stance and play it like an iron striking down on the ball. The result is a high shot that goes to the center (170 yards) and sticks. If the pin is in the front and I’m feeling lucky, I place the ball back in my stance and use the same swing as an iron striking down on the ball. This normally produces a really high shot that will fly past the flag and then spin back.

One club, three different shots. These hybrids can really improve your confidence which translates into better play your entire round.

By: Chris A Smith
I’ve been playing this silly game for over thirty years and I still love it. The only thing that can keep me away from the course on Saturday morning is my wedding anniversary or a serious natural disaster. I live in Los Angeles and the recent wildfires with their ash and smoke didn’t stop our group from getting in a round so when I say serious disaster I’m talking Northridge quake kind of thing.

About nine months ago I took my game to a new level. I bought The Simple Golf Swing ebook and my game took off. Now I’m number 2 on our group’s money list and I’m not looking back.

The method is a little counter intuitive and I don’t know if it will work for you but it sure works for me.

The book costs $47 but before you buy it, sign up for the FREE golf tips. I’m betting the first one you receive will change your game around if you use it.

Do you struggle hitting your driver? Some of you tee the golf ball low, thinking that you will be able to drive the golf ball through the air at a different trajectory. And those of you that tee it high think that that will make it soar through the air.

You thought that when you went out and purchased that 8- degree titanium boron shaft with a super-duper new grip, that it was going to drive down the middle of every fairway. Or maybe you purchased the newest golf training aid and you think youll be more consistent overnight. I dont think so.

Now here are the golf tips for driving better. The lower you tee a golf ball, the more your chance will be that you slice the ball to the right. The higher you tee the golf ball, the more your chance will be for you to hook the golf ball to the left.

If you’re hooking the golf ball, tee it down a little lower. If you’re slicing the golf ball, tee it up a little higher. And heres why.

When the golf ball sits on the ground and its a little lower than it should be, the golf club has to come in on a steep angle and that will cause it to slice. On the other hand, if you tee it up a little higher, it will come in and enable the club face to close a little quicker.

Now, heres the golf training aid on what to do on the first few holes.

My driver has 8 degrees of loft. That means the face is very flat. If I happen to have the club face a little too open or a little too closed at impact, the flight of the ball will either go to the far right or to the far left.

Therefore, I decided to use my great little 3 wood, and no matter what I do, I might miss it, but it wont curve as much as if I used my driver.

So, I hit the golf ball with my 3 wood and guess what. It went into the rough, but not as far into the rough because I went with a more lofted golf club for the first few holes.

So, the next time you go play, remember this golf training aid for hitting your driver. You dont have to pull the driver out every time you get on the tee box. Maybe you dont use your driver for the first two or three holes until you get a little warmed up, but in the meantime, take your favorite lofted wood and give it a whack.

Copyright 2006 David Nevogt

By: David Nevogt

About the Author:

As everyone is trying to catch lightning in a bottle, the Wireless Golf Coach is asked all of the time about what golf training aid will work for our students. Obviously the answer is different for everyone but with that being said here are five golf training aids we often suggest:

Golf Training Aid #1: Callaway Golf X-Force Swing Trainer

The Callaway Golf X-Force swing trainer is designed to help you develop the feel for the pendulum sensation of the golf swing. The Callaway Golf X-Force swing is 2 times heavier than a standard golf club, so swinging it on a regular basis when you are off the course can help you develop proper golf musculature and general muscle tone. The impact feature helps to simulate actual outdoor ball striking.

Golf Training Aid #2: GolfGym Powerswing Trainer – Masters Edition

The GolfGym Powerswing Trainer is designed for the golfer looking for the finest in golf-specific training and conditioning for use in-season and/or in the off-season. Choose from 25 exercises designed to strengthen the muscles used in golf, including the rotator cuff region of the shoulder, hips, back and stomach muscles. Follow the golf exercise program of just 10 minutes a day, three times a week is all most golfers need to remain golf-ready. The Golf Gym Powerswing is a complete training kit containing the ProPerfect Training Grip with three PowerCords (light/lowest resistance, medium/standard resistance, heavy/strongest resistance), Quick Start DVD, Quick Start Manual and Storage Bag. This golf training aid is available Right & Left Handed.

Golf Training Aid #3: Swing Mirror by Izzo Golf

With the swing mirror by Izzo Golf you will be able to check your own posture, swing plane, grip, club face, finish position as well as your stance and ball position. The Swing Mirror will give you instant visual feedback so you can improve your very own golf swing or putting stroke.

Golf Training Aid #4: David Leadbetter’s SwingLink

Developed by David Leadbetter, the SwingLink is a golf improvement tool that helps you achieve a more efficient golf swing in minutes. It keeps your arms and body working together as a single unit rather than allowing the arms to work independently. By keeping the body and arms in a good connection, you will use your bigger muscles and hit more consistent golf shots and lower your scores! Leadbetter has worked with PGA Tour Players such as Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Charles Howell and Nick Price.

Golf Training Aid #5 – The Transfer Station

The Transfer Station is a three piece golf training aid that can be used to help you improve your full swing as well as your putting stroke. The Transfer Station will help your Full Swing by: Encourages the proper weight transfers Find the correct ball position every time you set-up Properly align your body to your target line The Transfer Station will help your Putting by: Promotes a straight back and straight through putting stroke Properly align your shoulders to the line of your putt In addition: Stores easily in your golf bag Made for indoor and outdoor use Will help all types of golfers men, women and juniors as well as right and left-handers.

No matter what skill level the golfer is you will be able to find something that will make any golfer that you know happy and improve their game.

For some golfers, slice is their arch enemy. No matter what they try, they cannot get rid of this part of their game, what is almost an itch that they cannot reach. Luckily, there are anti slice golf drivers which can help them immensely. Discover more about them in this article.

Maybe you’ve been playing golf for a few years, even had a few lessons. You’re actually not pretty bad, it’s just that your slice is holding you back and you can barely drive 150 yards.

Normally, the best advice is to keep at it, keep practising and eventually you can correct your golf swing so that the club face will impact squarely. But in recent times, anti slice clubs have been made available which will correct your swing for you.

Although some purists will call them ugly, ultimately they help you to correct your swing and make that square impact that you’ve been looking for. The drivers are particularly popular because you stand to gain the most with them compared to the irons.

Like I said, some purists will scoff at these clubs. They do have a point. For instance, if you’re a slicer and you buy a couple of these anti slice clubs then you will swing longer and more straight. But the minute that you switch back to your other clubs then you will still have the same problem (unless you replace your entire golf bag of clubs).

Try telling that to those who have struggled for a long time and spent a lot of time and money on perfecting their swing. Along comes a club that truly does answer their golfing prayers.

By: Reggie Rouse

About the Author:

Pulls are a common occurrence for most golfers. We occasionally reach back for a little extra and find our ball headed left toward who knows what rather than the intended target. If this is a frequent experience for you then you must either struggle to score well or you’re an expert at getting out of trouble.

Did you know that a pull and slice are related? That is to say that they are the result of the same fundamental golf swing flaw. With so many of us suffering with this issue the golf industry continues to develop technologies and techniques for its cure. The often cited “over the top” or an “outside to inside” swing path.

So the solution is very similar to that which fixes a slice. The golfer needs to develop an inside approach to the golf ball. While there are several suggestions and techniques to make this happen, I’ve found that they only serve to confuse most of us even more so than we might already be.

Our hope here is to simply to clear up the confusion and provide you with the easiest (for most) way to correct a pull swing fault.

To correct the flaw it helps to understand the cause. While there are a few different causes the most common is that the club head approaches the ball from outside the intended target line with the club face closed to that same line.

The cure will seem counter intuitive to keeping the ball from going left but I promise it will work to create an inside to outside swing path. And that swing path will prevent the pull. Give it a try sometime on the range if you doubt it will work just to test my point.

How to cure a pull

Set up with your body aligned slightly closed to the target line. That means dropping your back foot away from the target line an inch or two.

Close the club face a bit. Rotate the club face a bit toward the inside of the line.

Strengthen your grip. Rotate the hands away from the target just a bit.

Make a full shoulder turn. Turn the shoulders as close to 90 degrees as possible.

Drop the hands from the top. Once you’ve completed the backswing your next move should be to bump you hips forward slightly and drop the hands straight down toward the ground.

As the swing continues to flow smoothly the upper body turn will bring the club back from the inside to meet the ball on a square swing path.

There you have it. Practice this until it becomes a normal part of your golf swing. Whether you are dealing with a slice or a pull these swing tips will work to help correct it in no time.

By: Wayne Hudler

About the Author:

Slicing a golf ball is a common problem faced by many amateur golfers. The problem with slicing a golf shot is that it usually results in a poor shot both in lack of distance and direction. It is important to solve this problem in order to lower your handicap and become a better golfer. Here are some tips to help you get rid of the slice and become a more consistent player.

Tip 1: Keep the right hand passive during the swing

If you are a right handed player then it is important to keep your right hand fairly inactive during the swing. Many new players try to use their strong arm which is usually the right hand to try to force the club through the hitting zone in an effort to hit the ball farther. The problem is that this usually results in casting the club in the downswing which results in an outside to inside club head path that produces a slice golf shot.

Tip 2: Pull the club with the left hand on the downswing

During the downswing it is a good idea to think of yourself pulling the club through the hitting zone. This will help to promote an inside to out club path that results in straighter shots.

Tip 3: Use the correct grip

Make sure the grip you are using squares the club face during the address position. Also be sure that the face of the club is not open or facing to the right of your target but is rather facing directly at the target.

Tip 4: Master the wedge game

Perhaps the best way to learn the game of golf is to learn it from the green back to the tee. If you have trouble hitting your shorter shots such as wedge shots straight then it is almost inevitable that your longer shots will suffer. Spend plenty of time hitting wedge shots from 120 yards and in.

Tip 5: Keep your head down

This is a cliche but it is still important that you do indeed keep your head steady and still during the downswing and let your head come up naturally with your right shoulder as you complete the swing.

Tip 6: Maintain balance

If you find yourself losing balance during or at the end of your swing then make it a point to develop a more controlled swing where you are balanced throughout the swing. Make sure that you end each swing with a balanced pose towards the target.

Tip 7: Slow down your backswing

Most new golfers have a backswing that appears rushed compared to the downswing. You want to maintain a consistent tempo between the backswing and the downswing. It is best to have a slower more deliberate backswing. Conserve your energy for the downswing where power and speed are generated to hit the ball far.

Tip 8: Check your alignment

Poor positioning of your body and feet towards the target can cause a slice to happen. Make sure that your feet are aligned and pointing directly at the target. If you find your feet are pointing to the left of the target then this can cause a slice to occur.

Tip 9: Practice consistently

Sometimes it is necessary to make a commitment to learning the game in order to get better and cure the slice. If you practice often you will find that some of your shots do go straight and eventually you will figure out how to hit straighter shots more often. There are many factors that can cause a slice so getting the pieces of the puzzle together can take time and regular practice. Follow some of these tips to help you hit straighter shots and lower your golf handicap.

By: Shakil Zaman

About the Author:

Correcting a golf slice is the fastest way to shave strokes off of your golf game. Slicing a golf ball is one of the most common errors that an average player makes.

Some golfers remain frustrated for years because they never find out why they are slicing a golf ball. But if you are ever going to become a good golfer, correcting a golf slice is a must. These simple tips will show you how to cure golf slices just by practicing some basic golf swing tips and instructions.

Proper Golf Stance

A proper golf stance should be about as wide as your shoulders. Make sure your shoulders are aligned at your target. Point your right foot straight ahead and point your left foot slightly to the left. Keep your elbows as natural as possible to maintain a proper golf stance.

Even minor adjustments to your stance can make major changes in where your golf ball will end up. Practice the proper golf stance at the driving range and make small adjustments until you get the results you are looking for.

Proper Golf Club Grip

Another common way of correcting a golf slice is adjusting your hands for a proper golf club grip. Grip the golf club with your left hand and put your thumb along the shaft.

The line between your thumb and index finger should be pointing toward your right eye. Wrap your right hand over your left and rest your left thumb into your right palm.

A common mistake most right handed golfers make is gripping the club too tight with the right hand causing the ball to hook towards the left. But the opposite is true with a slice. A weak grip creates an open club face causing your ball to slice to the right.

The best way of correcting a golf slice caused by your grip is roll your hands back so that your non dominant back hand faces the target and your dominant back hand faces the opposite direction.

Practice the proper golf club grip at the driving range to determine if this is what’s causing you to slice the ball. Take your time and make small adjustments to your grip. Even though a proper golf club grip seems simple, it is one of the most common ways of correcting a golf slice.

Correct Golf Swing Mechanics

Correct golf swing mechanics is another cure for correcting a golf slice. A proper golf backswing starts with your hands, is immediately followed by your arms and shoulders all in one smooth motion.

A proper golf downswing begins with your hips, keeping your eyes on the ball and your head behind the ball as you follow through. Once you practice the correct golf swing mechanics, you’ll be amazed at how quick you will lower your golf score.

Becoming a good golfer is a matter of practicing and playing on a regular basis while developing good habits. Small changes can often make a big difference in your score. Once you practice correcting a golf slice you’ll soon be hearing, “great shot!”

Copyright 2005 1 Stop Shopping Online.com.
