Whether you want to cure your slice or add some distance to your drive, a correct golf grip always comes into play. There are 3 grips used in golf and they are plastered all over the internet so I will not go into any detail on the basics of golf grips and head straight into the advanced bit.

When preparing to make your swing, I want your to take a minute to analyze your grip to ensure that the following standards are being met:

Grip pressure is a sticky subject to write about. When talking about how much pressure to use when holding a club, the answer from most is usually a neutral grip. I have heard people swear that they play better golf using a strong grip. I would say that this is possible for some but I would not recommend it. Strong and weak grips are a common cause of slicing and should be avoided. Keep a neutral grip to ensure that you have the best opportunity to hit the ball straighter.

You will now want to take a look at your finger positioning. You should be holding the golf club firmly with the first 2 fingers and the palm of your left hand(right-handed golfers). When the ball is at address, if you look down, only 2 knuckles should be visible. Get a friend to check your position by standing directly in front of you. From this position they should see the same thing. You should realign your fingers before proceeding with your backswing and not try to fix it after.

Learning the proper way to grip a golf club is so important to your success in golf. This is your only contact with the club, so you’ve got to get it right. You may think it’s simple enough, but after 15 years and a 6 handicap later, I found out my grip was wrong and it was causing several bad swing faults, that I would never have cured unless I learned the proper grip on the club. But once I did, it was amazing how fast I was able to correct my faults and you too will be able to do the same.

Your grip should feel natural. There should be no torquing or twisting of your hands when you put them on the club. Many times, teaching pros will torque your left hand way over, and then your right way under, which is considered a strong grip, but when you do that, does it feel natural? Do you feel like you can make a swing holding it like that? I’ll bet not! If that’s the case, do NOT hold it like that. Period!

The goal in golf is to make it as natural feeling as possible. The minute we add discomfort tension creeps in and swing faults occur.

So lets look how your hands hang naturally. Let them hang down; give your arms and hands a shake, then look down at your hands. What do you see? If you’re relaxed, you should see the palms of both hands nearly facing your thighs. Am I right? Now… look again at your hands and imagine bringing them together to grip your club. You won’t be able to exactly put your hands on it, but this is as close to a perfect grip as you can get.

What I like to call it is a strong left hand and a weak right hand, but this is a perfect blending of both hands that will eliminate all tension in your arms and shoulders, allowing you to hit with maximum clubhead speed. This may seem like an unconventional approach to your grip, but after experiencing this for myself, I can clearly attest to an improvement that would not have happened unless I made this change.

You can practice this right in your home with a club laying around your house. Do what I said, and check to make sure there is no tension. If so, you’re on your way to a better game.

The game of golf is not only physically but also mentally challenging. It is a strategic game that has many fans around the world. Golf is played by hitting a golf ball using golf clubs on an area called the teeing ground. Once the ball has been hit, it will travel along fairways and into the next prepared area, where a hole is found. This prepared area is known as the putting green.

Simply put, the target of the game is of course to put the ball into the hole in as few hits as possible. This means that a golfer has to complete the hole by hitting the golf ball from the teeing ground into the hole in the putting green using the golf club in as little strokes as possible. A round of golf usually means a play of 18 holes.

There are two basically two kinds of play in golf. In the match play, the winner is determined according to the number of holes lost and won. In the other kind of play, which is the stroke play, the winner is the golfer who uses the least number of strokes to complete a round.

In playing the game, there are two very fundamental rules to adhere to: Play the course as you find it; and play the ball as it is found.

Should the rules above be difficult for you to follow, keep in mind that you should at least play fair at all times. How do you determine what is fair and what is not? Read on and find out some rules which will give you a greater understanding on how to be a fair player in playing golf.

Do not stand, move or talk too close to a golfer who is about to make a stroke.

Play without any delay. Leave as soon as the other members in your group leave.

Try your best to play when everyone in your group is already out of the way.

Try to replace the divots as much as you can. And if you have walked into a bunker, don’t forget to smooth out all your footprints.

It is not advisable for you to drop your golf clubs on the putting green, so avoid it at all cost.

Rules to Playing Golf

Before you start on your round of golf, take some time to read the local rules which are stated on the scorecard that you hold. After reading the rules, it is a good idea for you to mark which golf ball you will be using, which will make it easier for you to identify it. Several golfers may be suing the same brand of golf balls as you, In this case, it would be easy to see which golf ball belongs to you.

Before you start, make sure you have counted your golf clubs. You are allowed a maximum of fourteen golf clubs.

When beginning the actual play, make sure you tee off in front of your tee markers. Should your tee off be a little bit off, or outside of the area specified, you may be asked to repeat your stroke. If this happens in a match play, then you are lucky as there will be no penalty for you. However, if this happens in a stroke play, then you are given a two-stroke penalty. That is why it is important for you to tee off in the specified area.

When you are playing, should your ball lie in a water hazard or a bunker, remember not to hit or touch the water or bunker in any way before you do your downswing.

The ball should never be spooned or pushed: it should always be struck fairly.

It is all right if you want to mark the ball that you are using. You could also clean your ball: just lift it, clean and put it back exactly where it was previously.

In the case of dropping a ball, the best way to do so would be to stand straight and to hold your golf ball at the length of your shoulder, and to drop it gently. Should you, in dropping the ball, happen to strike another player, the caddie or even yourself, you must drop the ball again. This is done with no penalty.

It would also be all right for you to pick up your ball if by doing so you would assist another player. On the other hand, you may also lift any other ball if that ball is interfering with your playing or another player.

By remembering the basic rules of golf as well as the basic common courtesies of playing golf fairly, you will make the game more enjoyable for you and others.

The 2 most common problems facing golfers today has to be slicing and inconsistent ball striking. The high handicapper struggles with both, not knowing where their ball is going to end up once it leaves the tee. Do you find yourself aiming purposely to the left so that when your ball is done slicing to the right, you might end up somewhere on or around the fairway? That’s a sign that your slice has gotten out of control, and you need to try to fix it with a golf grip change.

There are really only two reasons that a golf ball is sliced, and one of them is an open clubface. With an open clubface, you put an incredible amount of sidespin on the ball, leading to a wicked slice that lands in the woods, water, or other course. The key, then, is to return the golf club face to the square position when it strikes the ball.

One ailment that may be leading to an open clubface is a weak, improper grip. By gripping the club incorrectly, your club face opens at impact and send the golf ball wherever it feels like going.

There is no single correct grip. There are actually 3 common types of grips, but all grips vary a little bit differently from each other. There are, however, a few things that are very similar in all correct golf grips.

First, ensure you’re gripping the club as tight as you need to. It should be a relatively loose grip, but firm enough to keep the club from flying away when you swing.

Second, ensure your “V”‘s are aligned correctly, pointing to your right shoulder (if you’re a right-hander).

These are just a few commonalities all correct grips have in common. If you check these first, you may find that your grip is severely lacking and may be the cause of your ailing, inconsistent swing.

In the backswing, of course, you do the backswing. Make sure that you do the backswing slowly. Trying to do it as quickly as possible would only produce an undesired result. Doing it slowly builds up the power that you’ll be using to hit the golf ball. The transition is the part of the golf swing where you’ve finished doing the backswing and is about to start the downswing. When you do the downswing, the power now readies to be released. Your body and shoulders now begins to turn. The body’s turn also increases the power. The follow-through starts after hitting the golf ball. The arms automatically go up because of the momentum.

Learn to incorporate the golf swing sequence with your swing. It’s the only way to make a perfect swing and to lower your scores. Practice each of the sequences and perfect each one. The most important thing is to have a fluid and consistent swing, this will guarantee that you hit the ball straight and true each time.

I will show you exactly how to learn and practice the perfect golf swing. Over 99.9% of all golfers miss this and then they’ll worry about how to achieve the perfect swing when they’ve done everything the wrong sequence.

If I asked you to run a 20 mile marathon could you if you just started running? Of course not because you don’t have the necessary conditioning and training to enable you to even attempt such a marathon.

The funny thing about golfers is they tend to want to run the 20 mile marathon as soon as they pick their first golf club.

Here are the typical steps that beginner golfers tend to do when they first pick up a golf club:

1. They usually go to a golf shooting range

2. They get a bucket of balls and a few clubs

3. Then they take a full swing and attempt to hit the ball as hard and as hard as they can.

Here are the following steps you should take even before you go to a driving range:

1. At home take a golf ball and put on the floor in front of you

2. Then take a club and from a starting position right behind the ball, pull your club about 12 inches back, then bring it back to the original position.

3. After you’ve trained this for approx. 10 times, then do the same as above and bring the club back about 2 feet then bring it back to the original position for 10 repetition.

4. Then you continue doing the same as above by bring it back for 3 feet…then 4 feet and so on till you have done the whole swing from start to finish.

5. If you see there is a certain distance that you can’t control as much as they other ones then it means that you should practice that particular distance for more repetitions till you’ve overcome that problem.

6. Once you’ve practice all the above steps then you should attempt to go out and actually hit some golf balls and not before.

Note: The above steps will teach you to control, feel and analyze exactly each step of your swing starting at different distances of your swing. Remember if you don’t have control of your swing when you bring it back, for example: 12 inches, then don’t expect that you’ll have a better swing when you bring it back for 24 inches and so on.

It’s done in a step by step process where you take to time to fully analyze, feel and make sure that you control each step of the overall swing which is trained at 12 inches at a time.

I would say that 99.9% of all beginners will try to hit the golf ball at a driving range with a full swing while trying to hit the ball as hard and as far as they can before they even know even how to do a basic swing.

Review: Take a golf ball at home and start by practicing your initial swing by increments of 12 inches at a time for 10 repetition, then go to 24 inches….36 inches and so on till you’ve practiced the whole swing.

Do you feel thatthe main obstacle in improving your golf game is the slice? If so, you’re not alone! Many recreational golfers feel that if they could just hit their drives straight, the rest of their game would be so much easier. Actually, this is true! Long par 4′s and par 5′s can be a nightmare to a golfer who slices the ball, because once they slice the tee shot, they find that they are playing catch-up the rest of the hole.

Today, I want to share with you some tips on how to fix a golf slice. You can use these tips to bolster your game, and start losing that slice immediately!

Tip 1: Balance is KEY — A middle infielder waits on the pitch by keeping his knees bent, facing the plate and keeping his weight balanced evenly on both feet, so that he can quickly react to the hit, and run to the left or the right.The golf swing requires the same balance.Bend your knees, face the ball, and don’t start off the shot by leaning in any direction. You’ve probably seen many “once-a-year” golfers making this mistake. They start the swing off with their weight way off balance. Doing this dooms the swing before you begin. Keeping yourself balanced is crucial, as is keeping the knees bent and being properly set.

Tip 2: WATCH the Left Arm — One trick many experienced golfers use requires only a watch and your golf club. Take a watch and put it on upside down, where the face of the watch is on the underside of your wrist instead of the top of your wrist. Now, watch that left arm while you slowly swing. If your watch is facing the ground during your backswing, than you’re opening up your clubface. Throughout your swing, make sure you can see the face of your watch. If you can, than you’re properly rotating your wrist, closing the face of the club, and dramatically lessening the chances of hitting a slice.

Tip 3: Proper Grip — Proper Grip — The grip is not something many consider when they are troubleshooting their swing. But a bad grip can ruin a swing, no matter how good it looks. A good test to make sure you have the proper grip is to insert two golf tees between your thumb and the webbing of your hand while gripping the club. If the tees point toward the target, than your weak grip is a typical slicer’s mistake. Make sure both tees are pointing straight in front of you, which will show that you are gripping it properly.

Let’s start out by challenging a dearly held belief that prevents far too many golfers from developing a good golf swing. Far too many golfers grip the club loosely, believing that their golf swing will be stiff and robotic if their wrists are too tight. This is not the case. If you want to improve your golf swing, get rid of this faulty idea and realize that you will do much better if you develop a tight grip.

Although many golfers have developed a bad golf swing through holding the clubs too loosely, no-one, except perhaps a few anxious newcomers, harms their swing by holding the clubs too tightly.

Many golfers tend to take a loose grip. This loose grip results in many errors that could be avoided easily. These errors are caused by hands opening at the top, the left wrist collapsing (or the right wrist, if you are a left-handed golfer), over swinging and various others.

You want a tight grip! Grab hold of that golf club and hold it tightly in your hands. Tight is right is your new mantra.

When you swing, your hands should be tight on the club. However, avoid holding yourself so stiffly that your upper back and shoulder muscles are cramped up.

Although the tight grip may feel awkward if you are accustomed to gripping loosely, it braces against multiple faults such as those mentioned earlier. This in turn helps you carry out the swinging motion most effectively.

This is the correct way to grip your club for an improved golf swing. Hold the club tightly enough that almost all fingers grasp the club. If you are a right handed golfer, the last three fingers of the left hand and the first three of the right hand are on the club. Left handed golfers will want to reverse this.

Resist the urge to place the forefinger of the right hand lightly on the club. By this, we refer to the finger that you hook round the shaft just below the thumb on your right hand. Be sure you hook this forefinger around the club firmly. This fingers tip should connect with the thumbs tip. Otherwise, at the top of the swing, the club will drop into the Vee that occurs between the thumb and forefinger. When this happens, you lose control at the top, and have to regain this control as the club swings downward.

In short, you want a tight, two-knuckle overlap for your golf swing.


Now, this is the correct way to how to stand up to the ball so you get a good golf swing. Its not difficult, but there are a couple of things to remember.

First, you want to stand in a position that allows you to swing the club back freely before easily arcing the ball downwards towards your feet. Divide your weight evenly between your left foot and your right foot. Slightly flex the knees. You are better off flexing too much than too little when you position yourself for your golf swing.

Bend slightly from the waist. Round or hunch your shoulders. Be sure your head is down. If you are a right handed golfer, you place your right hand further down on the shaft than the left hand. This in tern means that your right shoulder is lower than the left. Reverse this if you are a left handed golfer getting positioned for a golf swing.

Now go for it! Follow these golf tips and youll have an improved golf swing.

Hybrid golf clubs are becoming ever more popular with amateurs and professionals alike. Designed to replace “long” irons, the hybrids make those difficult 3, 4, and 5 iron shots far easier. They look different than irons, they feel different so it is natural to ask the question how to use hybrid golf clubs.

First the question is what makes the hybrid different than an iron. Just looking at one you can tell that there is far more mass behind the face, it’s wider and most importantly, the center of gravity is much lower than an iron allowing an easier launch of the ball. Every year, major manufacturers come out with improvements in club stability and club face. This year Taylormade came out with a single hybrid that allows you to dial in the shape and distance of the shot. If this club proves viable, then it will be the only hybrid you need in your bag.

How well do hybrid golf clubs work?

Why is the hybrid so much better than a long iron. The short answer is versatility. They can be used to replace fairway metals and deliver much more predictable and accurate shots than a fairway club without giving up distance. They are far more effective out of the rough than an iron because of their mass and heel design which allows for smoother contact with the grass. You can even chip with these clubs using a putter stroke!

So how do you use a hybrid golf club?

That depends.

If you are using the club as a replacement for a fairway metal, you’re going to use the same sweeping type swing plane that you would use for a 3 wood. This will give you the same distance as a fairway metal but will give you greater accuracy because and forgiveness. Why? Because fairway metals have a slight curve in their face while the hybrid is flat. If you hit on the curve of a fairway metal you will end up with a slice or a hook. The flat face of the hybrid gives you a bigger “straight” hitting surface.

Understand, because you are using a sweeping swing plane the ball is likely to run after it lands.

If you’ve pulled out a hybrid instead of a 4 iron, and you’re looking for a long shot that will stick when you land, then address and strike the ball the same way you would if you had an iron in your hand rather than the hybrid. Basically this means striking down on the ball to get a high launch with backspin.

You can play with the hybrid and get a variety of distances and shot shapes out of the same club. Here’s an example:

At the course that I play regularly at, there is a par 3 that plays 160 to 185 yards. Understand I’m a senior golfer and 185 yards was too far for my 7 wood and too close for my 3 wood. Before I got my hybrids, I had to use a three quarter swing with my 3 wood and I usually wound up rolling off the green.

Now when the flag is at 185, I take out my hybrid equivalent of a 4 iron and play it like a 3 wood. I place the ball a little forward in the stance and use a sweeping swing. It lands in the center of the green and runs to the back.

When the pin is in the center, I place the ball in the middle of my stance and play it like an iron striking down on the ball. The result is a high shot that goes to the center (170 yards) and sticks. If the pin is in the front and I’m feeling lucky, I place the ball back in my stance and use the same swing as an iron striking down on the ball. This normally produces a really high shot that will fly past the flag and then spin back.

One club, three different shots. These hybrids can really improve your confidence which translates into better play your entire round.
