An old friend of mine is a golf pro in Hawaii and he has been touting golf training gloves for ever. So, you want to play golf like a Pro? Well, it doesnt matter if you only get out on the course when you are trying to seal a deal, or the 19th hole is your favorite; there are plenty of gadgets and gizmos out there that claim to help you improve your game. So, how do you choose the best ones for you? Well, the main point to consider is where do your weaknesses really lie? Everywhere I hear you cry. Well, thats ok, there are products that can help you with every aspect of your game. I will give you the main ones.

Lets start with the tee off. Now here, there are two main points to consider. You want to drive straight, and long. That is the basis of any good drive. I am not going to teach you, here, how to select the right driver, but I am going to ask you to consider if you have a weakness in either the direction, or the length, of your drive. If you do, then you need to look at some of the aids that are available to help you practice these techniques. Of course, you are not going to use them on the golf course, but you can use them at your local driving range. Focus on whether you need to drive straighter, or longer. Then choose the product that helps you to correct your problem. For example, there are products that help you get the correct stance, have the perfect line on the ball, keep your through-swing, laser pointers, exercise regimes to get more upper body strength, and much more. Your swing is all-important, so this should be the one area that you spend the most time, and maybe money, on practicing, so that you can improve your entire game.

Next, lets take a look at the main issue on the fairway sand traps, or bunkers; depending on where you are from. Now you have very little choice of clubs here, you normally use your sand wedge, so it is up to you to use a lot of practice time to help you lower the number of strokes you need to take to get out of these nasty little critters. There are not many golf aids to help you with this, to be honest. It really is a case of practicing, with your sand wedge. However, you can find books, and videos, that will cover the best techniques. Practice makes perfect with this one!

Do you ever wonder how much more fun on the golf course you could have if you didn’t slice the darn ball all of the time? I can tell you, from my own experience, that golf is much more enjoyable and relaxing once I started hitting the ball straighter. But, I mean, it just seems that there is an endless variety of tips on how to cure a golf slice that you just feel lost and don’t know which ones are worth spending your time on. Anybody can make up a golf drill, no matter if it is effective or not, so it is hard to trust what’s out there sometimes. But, in this article, I will give you some effective information and tips on how to cure a golf slice for good.

If you can know what causes a golf slice, then you will be much better off on your quest to cure your ugly slice. A golf slice is a mix of an open clubface at impact, an outside-to-inside club path, and grip/setup flaws. I am not going to get into all of that technical mumbo-jumbo. Instead, I am just going to tell you some easy-to-follow tips and drills on how to cure a golf slice.

1) First, you need to check your grip. The three main categories of grips are strong, neutral, and weak. To find out which grip you have, simply grip the club normally and if your right thumb (if you are right handed) tends to wrap more around the left side of the grip, then you have a weak grip. If it is on the right side of the grip, then you have a strong grip. If it is more towards the middle, then you have a neutral grip. A weak grip is usually associated with a slice. If you notice that your right thumb and hand tend to wrap more around the right side of the grip, then try rotating your right hand so that your thumb is more towards the middle of the grip. Although this doesn’t seem like much, it can majorly help you stop slicing.

2) Second, if you truly want to learn how to cure a slice, don’t try and kill the ball by swinging hard. I have learned that this not only hinders your club speed, but it can lead to a nasty slice. You feel that you have more muscular force swinging an outside-to-inside swing path rather than swinging an inside-to-outside swing path, so trying to swing hard and kill the ball can lead to inconsistency and slicing. In order to learn how to not kill the ball, there are a few steps that you need to follow.

3) Third, with your new, “more neutral” grip, check your grip pressure. If you notice that you are gripping the club fairly tightly, this will cause you to try to swing harder. Once I began to have a much lighter grip, I not only swung the club more smoothly and rhythmically, my slice almost vanished. A good way to find the correct grip pressure is to grip the club normally and then hold the club out with your arms locked until your arms are straight out in front of you, perpendicular to your body.

4) Apply just enough grip pressure to where the club does not slip through your hands, and then apply a little bit more. This may feel uneasy and strange at first, but I will assure you that you will notice better contact and straighter ball flights. You must practice this on the range if you want to learn how to cure a slice.

5) And last, of course, make sure you hold your follow-through on your swing until the ball hits the ground. This simple tip, alone, has worked wonders for my golf game, allowing me to gain extra distance and to swing through the ball more, which will help cure your slice in itself.

Isn’t the slice one of the most maddening aspects of the game of golf?

How in the hell are we ever supposed to lower our scores if the ball is always rolling sideways across the fairway? There’s nothing more disheartening to really make solid contact, only to see that sudden, mid-air curve grab hold of your golf ball.

Obviously, since slicing the ball is so common, there are lots of aids and instruction on how to prevent it. There are special tees, and special clubs…instructional videos and books.

The list is large for sure. But each and every one of these methods is attempting to accomplish the same thing, which is change the spin that you put on the ball when you hit it. Vicious, sideways spin equals a slice…forward spin or ‘overspin’ equals a nice straight shot down the middle.

As we’ve discovered, there are many ways to try and accomplish this, all with varying degrees of success. The anti-slice technique I like to use is a nice short backswing, followed by a bottom hand wrist roll through impact.

To simplify…I make sure my backswing isn’t wrapping around my head in some huge, arcing motion. Consciously keep it shorter and you’ll have much better control of your clubs.

Then, just as I’m making contact with the ball, I roll my bottom hand over the top, so that the palm of the bottom hand is facing the ground.

You’ll have to mess around with the timing to get it right, but it will put overspin on the ball and will stop you from slicing the ball all over the golf course. Good Luck!

Nobody likes to slice the golf ball as it results in both loss of distance and accuracy which in turn costs you strokes on the golf course. The way to get rid of that nasty slice is not really difficult but will require you to analyze your current swing and fix some of those mechanical errors that are causing the slice. Here are a few tips that can help you hit straighter shots more often:

Tip 1: Keep the right hand passive (right handed players)

Many players in their efforts to hit the ball far use their dominant right hand to try to muscle the club through the hitting zone. The problem with this strategy is that it usually results in poor shots since using the right hand tends to cause a problem known as casting.

Casting is simply releasing the club too early which result in an outside to in club path that imparts slice spin on the golf ball. One good way to eliminate this is to focus instead on pulling the club with your left hand on the downswing. This will help to almost naturally cause the clubhead to move in an inside to out swing path which is ideal for straight golf shots.

Tip 2: Use less wrists during the swing

It is best to avoid using the wrist too much during the golf swing. Think of your wrists as simply a support mechanism. Focus on making good shoulder turns and hip movements that produce an inside to out swing path. Using the wrists too much during the downswing will cause the club to usually release early which results in loss of power and slices.

Tip 3: Move the hips laterally rather than turning them during the downswing

Turning the hips too much on the downswing can cause a slice shot since it throws the club head to an outside to in path. Your hips should slide slightly towards the target through impact so avoid turning them too early. The hips should turn after impact when the momentum of the follow through naturally causes them to rotate.

Tip 4: Keep the head down through impact

This is a common tip given to all new players but it is important nonetheless. Raising the head up too early can cause the club to come from the outside and cause a slice shot. Make sure your head stays down through impact and comes up naturally with the right shoulder as the follow through completes.

Tip 5: Be sure the club is square at the address position

If the club head is open (pointing to the right of the target) at address then this will cause slice spin. Check the club head during address and make sure that it is facing the target.

Tip 6: Slow down your tempo

Tempo is unique to every player. Some players will naturally have a fast tempo and others a slower one. However, if you are always slicing the ball then try to slow down your tempo slightly especially on the downswing. Swinging too fast can throw off your mechanics in many areas that can result in slices so slow things up a little to help in your efforts to hit the ball straighter. Try some of these tips to help you reduce slicing the golf ball and shoot lower golf scores.
