It seems that every golfer at some point in time wants to know how to get rid of slice golf. At some point, every golfer has had a fear of slicing.

I know the dreaded fear of the golf slice I had it bad. I also know how embarrassing it is to hit that weak, airy-fairy shot off to the right, the one that so often goes in the woods or out of bounds.

The other problem with slicing is that it will cause you to lose 10-17 yards from your drives. The reason for this is that slicing will produce a higher shot with more backspin and sidespin than a draw or straight shot. When you learn to overcome slicing and hit the ball straighter, you will naturally gain more distance.

It is possible to overcome a golf slice. If you apply everything Ill teach you in this free online golf lesson, you can learn to fix your golf slice.

What causes a slice in golf? It is simply that the ball is struck with a sideways force that makes the ball spin sideways. Now, one other reason you may be hitting weak shots to the right is that you are hitting the ball off the toe of the club. This in fact will open the clubface at impact. Golf Dust is a great golf impact indicator that can show you if this is what you are in fact doing wrong.

Heres what you must understand – there are only two ways that you can slice a golf ball:

1. An outside-in swing path or 2. Holding the club face open at impact

There is one other thing that may cause a shot that drifts off to the right and that is simply hitting the ball off the toe of the golf club. The best way to find out if youre not hitting the sweet spot is to use a golf impact indicator like Golf Dust or some form of golf tape.

In this article, well look at how to cure both of the problems that cause a slice.

However, what Id like to have you consider first is whats going on in your mind. Thats where I was actually having the greatest challenges and where my greatest breakthroughs have come.

Heres how I corrected my thinking and learned to fix my golf slice:

1. The biggest problem I had with slicing the golf ball was that I was actually overcompensating. My fear was slicing my shot to the right, so I would compensate by trying to pull the club inside to the left. This created an outside-in swing path, exactly what was causing me to slice.

2. Whatever you focus on expands. If you focus on that what you fear, it will expand and your mind will dwell on a slice. Get over it. Yes, thats right, just quit thinking about slicing as of right now. Stop fearing it.

3. One of the best lessons I ever learned about this was is Timothy Gallways book, The Inner Game of Golf. He talks about challenging your inner critic. Tell yourself, Alright body, show me how to hit a slice. Show me what that would look like.

Wow, all of a sudden, just by facing your fear, it takes away the tension!

Then say to your body, Alright body, now show me how to hit one straight. Then show me a hook. This process allows your body to relax and actually feel what the different swing paths feel like.

Give your body permission to try a few different swing paths. It will be very freeing and suddenly you will gain a new perception and awareness of your actual swing path.

Accuracy Golf Training – How to Align for Straight Golf Shots:

Start focusing on what it takes to hit straight shots. This method of alignment is what I still use and it is extremely effective. If you watch golf on TV, youll soon discover this is exactly how most touring pros align their shots.

1. Take your grip while standing behind the ball.

2. Next, stand behind the ball and look at the target (usually a flag).

3. Then visualize a line that runs from your target to your ball.

4. Take Dead Aim. Find something that catches your eye that is on that target line, about 1-2 feet directly in front of your ball. This is where you will aim. Make it a precise spot, like the left edge of a divot or an unusual blade of grass.

5. Come to the side of the ball and 1st align your club to the target spot 1-2 feet in front of you.

6. Now ALIGN YOUR FEET TO RUN PARALELL TO THE TARGET LINE. It is critical that you understand this point. Your feet should NOT point at the target, otherwise you will be having a closed stance and it will not be natural for your club to swing through the ball squarely. If your feet are aligned to the target, you will actually have a closed stance and will be forced to overcompensate. The best way to check the line is to take your normal stance, then have someone drop a club at your heels. Then you can go behind the ball and check to see if the club on the ground is lined up parallel to the target (it should be lined up about 15 feet left of the target the opposite if you are a lefty).

7. Great now youre perfectly aligned for success. Now waggle the club to release any tension from your hands. I suggest that you develop a consistent number of waggles before you swing because this will help you get in a steady habit. It will also keep you focused on your set-up routine, rather than taking too long over the ball and letting your mind get crowded with negative swing thoughts. You might find something like 1-2-3 go is helpful. Just create your own pattern and make it a habit.

8. Rotate your head towards the target (do not lift your head up as you will get yourself out of position). Visualize the exact spot where you want the ball to land and roll, then imagine the flight the ball will take. I do this visualization as a part of my waggle.

9. My only swing thought is simple Feel the club swinging straight down the line. I visualize an imaginary line that runs down the path I want my club to take, then I watch my divot come out of the ground along that path.

These 9 simple steps should prove most helpful in curing your golf slice and allow you to have greater accuracy in your golf game.

If you are still having difficulty getting rid of your golf slice, you should take a look at your grip.

It is possible that you have what is known as a weak grip. This simply means that your grip is such that your hands tend to roll the club to an open position and the ball curves right at impact.

A simple rule of thumb for a proper golf grip is that you want to be able to see at least two knuckles on your glove hand (your left hand for right-handed golfers). The right hand should tuck in to the left hand and the hands should work together.

You should also have a PGA teaching professional take a look at your set-up.

One last thing to check to overcome a golf slice: Part of the problem may be in the way you are NOT transferring your weight in the golf swing. If you find that on your follow-through that the majority of your weight is on the right foot (for rightys), you are not transferring your weight properly. This will cause an outside to inside swing plane and will result in a slice.

Whatever you focus on expands. It may be that you are actually just trying too hard. As a result, you develop a tremendous amount of tension in your body and your hands are not able to relax and properly swing through the impact zone.

Heres the key to hitting great shots: Smile and have fun! Pretend like youre a little kid and you dont care about the results. Say to yourself, Im going to enjoy this swing, regardless of the outcome.

Make sure to take your grip like you were hanging on to a babys hand. When you swing, focus on relaxed hands.

When you practice, take a few swings on the practice range and see if you can detect any tension in your body when you swing. Just notice it, dont try to correct it. Make it your goal to just release any tension and allow yourself to swing to be free, fluid and fast.

I’m so tired of reading about the latest and greatest method for a golf pitch shot or any other golf shot for that matter. You know, you can go back to some golf magazines from the 60′s and you’ll see almost the exact same pictures and instruction sequences as today. Not much has really changed in golf instruction I’m here to tell you. If you read the latest books, however, you’d swear that the human body was just invented or that golf clubs were just invented, one of the two.

Listen, it’s so simple to make a great golf pitch shot and everyone wayyy over complicates this. As with everything I teach in golf, it all boils down to doing a couple main things very correctly. Most of the details matter very little but we get all caught up in so many minor things that we end up not paying attention to the major thing.

For a golf pitch shot. Here’s the major things:

1. As still a body as you can given the distance of the swing. Again, I hear all of this advice on videos about wrist cock and proper stance and blah blah blah… Guess what? There’s many ways to make a pitch shot, not just one. But they all work more consistently when the body is still. Focus on this. Work on this in your living room while watching TV. You don’t even need a ball? This will pay you back in spades in lower score and yet nobody does it.

2. Hit down to make the ball go up. Now if I had a nickel for every time I saw an amateur try to “help” the ball up in the air, I’d be a millionaire. This is so common because it is counterintuitive. To hit a great golf pitch shot, you must strike the ball before the ground. If you need more loft, pull out your sand wedge or lob wedge. Don’t go through all those bodily gyrations to force it. The best way to make sure this happens is to pre-load it in your setup. That means, you should be leaning on your front foot more than your back. That drops your front shoulder down and back shoulder up. As long as you keep your body still, your swing will necessarily result in a downward, correct strike on the ball.

3. Make the shot while keeping it as low as possible. In other words, you don’t always need a wedge! In fact, for most amateurs, running the ball up on the green is almost always a better choice, especially if you tend to chunk it or hit it fat as they say. Pull out your 5-iron some day and chip with it anytime you don’t absolutely have to put it in the air You’ll be surprised.

Folks, those are the biggies. Get real good at them and then you don’t even have to worry about any details. Forget about being “technically correct.” Much of that stuff is for the pros. Look, you just want to break 100 or 90 right? How will you do that? By becoming as consistent as possible. Work on the big 3 in your next golf chip shot and you’ll be amazed at what you can do.

But enough rambling, read, print, and practice this drill, and hopefully your slice will vanish along with your high scores.

Anyways…

I call this drill the “three ball drill.” It is one of the best golf tips for beginners that I can recommend, if you are battling a strong slice:

The next time that you go to the driving range, hopefully soon, get the club that you slice the worst with, i.e. the driver most likely and follow these simple steps:

1)Get three balls out and set one up a normal distance away from you as if you were going to hit it.

2) Then place two balls (teed up if you are using your driver) on each side of the first ball, perpendicularly from you, and leave just enough space to where you can swing the clubhead through.

3)Then take a full swing and attempt to hit the middle ball. Try to just hit the ball in the middle, then it should go relatively straight, as hitting the other balls too will show you that your swing plane, i.e. the “line” that that your club swings on, is faulty, resulting in a slice or off-target shot. Practice this drill lots as I strongly believe that it is a great golf tip for beginners, and soon to be single-handicappers.

The reason that this drill works is because your main goal to learn how to cure that slice is to achieve an inside-to-outside swing path, which will cause you to hit the ball straight.

All golfers want to know how to correct a golf slice.

There’s nothing more frustrating as a golfer than to be playing well, only to see your next shot go further to the right than it goes straight. It makes you want to snap your golf club in two.

Or at least, wrap it around a tree. Even Tiger gets that feeling (although I’m guessing his mis hits aren’t nearly as bad as our slices).

When fixing a golf slice, you have to figure out what the heck you’re doing wrong first.

1) Is your stance out of wack?

Your feet should be about shoulder width apart.

Your right foot should face straight ahead and your left foot should face slightly to the left of straight ahead (if you’re golfing lefty, reverse this).

Your shoulders should be squared.

2) Is your grip too weak?

A weak grip can be a major cause of a nasty gofl slice. When correcting a golf slice, you definitely need to check your grip.

If you have a weak grip, try a more neutral grip. Face your left hand toward the target and your right hand away from it.

3) Is your swing the problem? A big cause of slicing the ball is coming across the ball at contact from outside to inside.

This puts a nasty slicing spin on the ball and will send it way off to the right. A closed club face coming across the ball, outside to inside, is a nasty recipe for a golf slice.

Be sure that your golf swing is inside to outside at contact.

If you can implement these three simple tips on how to correct a slice into your golf game, you will start to see an improvement in your shots.

You’ll have more consistency and see fewer shots veer to the right and on to the adjacent hole instead of the one your playing.

Your Golf Swing is such an important component of mastering this sport that it pays to work on this probably more than any other part of the game. Without a good swing as a fundamental element, the rest of your golfing game will surely suffer.

To understand what the correct path of the club head should be, try thinking of a rope attached to a tree above you. You should feel that you’re pulling the rope straight down from the top of the backswing. If done correctly, this forces your right elbow to stay close to your side, which is part of maintaining perfect form.

Another aspect of form is the position of your knees. The tendency is to let the left knee collapse toward the right during your backswing, causing the shoulder to drop. Instead, try to imagine your left knee going out toward your target on the backswing.

A very important point to note is that a good swing will pause at the top, very slightly, before changing direction. This will have the effect of keeping your ball towards the middle of the fairway, at least most of the time!

Of course, every good swing begins with the proper grip. Getting this wrong can lead to a hook or slice quite easily. Make sure when you’re looking down, addressing the ball, that you can see the first two knuckles of your left hand, and a “V” formed between the thumb and forefinger pointing toward the right shoulder.

Did you know that you have a center of your golf swing and that if you maintain this center in it’s proper place through out the golf swing, you will be transformed, almost overnight, into a

” PLAYER”

Imagine what your playing partners would say after you showed up and shot a record round on Saturday, and then again on the next Saturday, and the next, and the next, and the next.

Do ya think they would wonder what the hell was going on? You bet they would.

So wouldn’t it make perfect sense for you to play as well as you possible could, with hardly any effort?

Of course the answer is, yes.. stupid !

OK…let’s do this.

If there was one single move, or position, in your golf swing that had to be done correctly in every single swing, every single time.. what do you think it would be ?

I will wait a moment for you to think about that and come up with an answer.

So… here it is, the center of your swing is your left shoulder. Not the center of your chest.

And it’s because of your left shoulder position that causes most of your golf swing troubles, it is the cause of:

The blocked shot to the right.

The slice.

The snap hook.

The pull hook.

The Sh_ _ k.

The push to the right.

The swipe.

Now listen up… there are some other reasons for a few of these troubles, but most are caused by the poor position of the left shoulder.

But that’s not the secret … the secret is accomplished by having the left shoulder in the correct position on the downswing and through impact.

The left shoulder is the center of your golf swing. It becomes the center of your golf swing on the move away. Not before. Just standing over the ball does not create a center at all.

Remember the golf swing is dynamic, its moving, so no position during the static portion of the golf swing matters, except to set up the proper alignments and grip. Otherwise there can be no center with no movement.

So as you begin your back swing your left should moves to the right to a position that is roughly pointing either at or behind the ball.

Now this is center.

Your golf swing center can be identified at this point. It is your left shoulder, and this position will become incredibly important in the next few paragraphs.

But it is still not the answer to the original question.

here is the question:

“If there was one single move, or position, in your golf swing that had to be done correctly in every single swing, every single time… what do you think it would be ?”

Answer: Clubhead Path…

I could write a book about how the pros in this game work to get this correct. Every time.

There is nothing in a golf swing that is more important. And it will make you a “player” if you can get this done correctly.

OK … so what is the proper club head swing path exactly ?

We know that it is not the famous ” over the top ” move, the one that creates the big slice that robs you of distance and accuracy. Two things that causes many lost strokes in every round. Right ?

The absolute correct path for the club head to travel is from inside the target line to outside the target line. The target line is a line going from the back of the ball all the way to the target, it is a straight line. There is no slice or hook in this line.

It’s easy to cause your club head to travel on this line. Just set up over your shot, imagine the line and make the club head go on that line. Do this without hitting a ball, just push the clubhead along the line. Do it at a most leisurely pace. See the club head travel along the line.

Not so tough is it ?

It’s quite another story when you attempt a full golf swing. The thing that kills most golf swings is the fact that it requires motion and control to do it right.

It’s always been this way.

In this case all we really want to do is make sure the club head travels along the correct path and that is inside the target line to outside the target line.

So you take your backswing along this same club head path and then your downswing along this same path in the opposite direction. Got it ?

Oh… but there is a problem here. Almost all of you will have your center in the wrong place on the down swing. And that center, we talked about earlier, is you left shoulder.

This part is going to be a bit tough to explain, but stay with me here.

The left shoulder, in the backswing, will be behind the ball a tad.

On the downswing the shoulders ( that is both of them) need to be parallel to the clubhead path during the downswing.

The best way to see this is to draw a line that represents the club head path on the ground. Now turn into your backswing and then position your shoulders that they are lined up with this line.

This should have moved your center just a tad to the left. And you have now created the space referred to as the ” slot” just under your right elbow.

It is at this very position of your shoulders at this time in your golf swing when your hands, arms, and club need to drop down to the ball along the club head path.

This is the magic moment. While doing this there is no appreciable movement of the shoulders.

You must visualize this club head path in your mine’s eye. It is exactly what good players do when they get ready to take their shot.

Here are some key thoughts that may help with keeping the center, centered.

Hit against your left shoulder.

Keep you back to the target for as long as you can.

Keep you shoulder parallel to the club head path

Swing the club head out

Swing out and down.

Visualize the club head path from start to finish

Do that every single time

A good drill is to do this in incredible slow motion. From start to finish. Always being focused on the clubhead path and the center of your swing, your left shoulder.

When I say slow motion, I mean painfully slow. Take a full minute or two to do one swing.

Key position is that the center of your swing is parallel to the club head path while the club head is following the path exactly. Inside to outside of the target line. And of course the center of your swing is the left shoulder.

This is an advanced discussion, one you won’t find on the driving range. Go and learn this one move.

And I promise that you will hit it like magic, longer and straighter than you ever have. Like the pros, you will have found your foundation for your power source. Now go use it!

Doing this kind of golf swing drill will condition your body to automatically create the correct golf swing each time.

If this does not suit you then why not try using just your right arm and swing as normal using your left hand to feel how the biceps work as you perform the swing. Doing this will not only strengthen the muscles in your right arm but you will be able to feel exactly how your body moves when performing a golf swing.

Another golf swing drill that you might like to try out is to have a friend standing behind you as you slowly take a normal backswing. Your friend then can see your target line and tell you if your club is pointing at the ball or up to four feet beyond it, if it is then you are almost there to having a great golf swing. Practise these golf swing drills over and over and you will be hitting like a pro in no time.

In order for you to become a great golf player, you have to learn the basics of golfing. One of the most important aspects of golfing is having a proper golf grip. Without it, how are you even going to hold the club correctly to hit the ball? Your hands completely determine how your club takes its backswing, how its clubface is angled on impact, and how fast you’re swinging the club. In this article, my aim is to show how to find the proper golf grip you would like to use in order to become a better player.

Before I explain to you the three proper golf grip techniques, I would like to make a small note about the amount of pressure you should apply. For whatever grip you decide to use, you should remember to always apply a light grip pressure. If the club is gripped too tight, then it will cause weak shots that result in a slice. On the other hand, by gripping the club lightly, it will improve wrist hinge, which is important for the power in a shot.

Proper Golf Grip Technique #1: Vardon Overlap Grip (Overlapping Grip)
This proper golf grip is often used by many golf players. This is a very popular golf grip in the 20th century. If you are taking golf lessons, then this is the proper golf grip that instructors are most likely showing you.

To use the overlapping grip, you simply take the pinky of your trailing hand and put it in between the index and middle finger of your leading hand. If you’re a right handed golfer, then your leading hand will be your left hand. Your lead hand’s thumb should fit inside of the lifeline of your trailing hand.

Proper Golf Grip Technique #2: Interlocking Grip
This is the second most common proper golf grip being used to day. This is the grip used by famous players such as Tiger Woods. Players that tend to use this are ones with weak forearms/wrists, small hands, and beginners.

To use this type of grip, take the pinky of the trailing hand and interlock it with the index finger on the leading hand. In other words, your two fingers will be intertwined with each other. The lead hand’s thumb will fit nicely in the palm of the trailing hand.

Proper Golf Grip Technique #3: Baseball Grip
This is the least commonly used grip, but it does have some good points about it. A lot of great players have used this grip with success. It is usually used by people with joint pain or small weak hands. This is also sometimes taught by instructors since it’s the simplest to explain. (This is most likely the grip that you used when you first played, since it’s the easiest!)

To use the baseball grip, your lead hand has a perfect hang grip, and then you take the pinky of the trailing hand and bring it up close to the index finger of your leading hand. Basically, just imagine you’re holding the golf club like a baseball bat.

I hope that learning these three proper golf grips will help your game out immensely. As you learn how to use each of the grips and find the best one for you, you’ll eventually find that you’ll be hitting your shots better than ever. Practice the proper golf grips often!
