Slicing is one of the most common problems golfers face. There are a couple of reasons why you are slicing your ball. To learn how to cure your slice, you have to figure out what your problem is. The right grip, stance, and swing are needed to eliminate the slice.

First, start with your grip. You want a grip that is neither too strong or too weak. It’s the weak grip that causes a slice, because this results in an open club face. To fix your grip, position your hands so that your left hand (right hand if you are a lefty), faces the target. Your other hand should face the opposite way.

If you still slice after you adjust your grip, your golf stance may be your problem. Your feet should be shoulder width apart. Your shoulders should be in line with your target. Your right foot needs to point ahead while your left foot should point slightly to the left. At a driving range, practice hitting balls with the correct stance and grip to see if your slice improves. Make slight adjustments to your stance until you are confident that you have found the proper form.

The last way to cure your slice is to fix your swing. Start with your backswing. At the top of your backswing, the shaft should be over your shoulder. The position of your clubface can also create a slice. While you want the clubface open, it should be that way because of the movement of the torso and shoulders. You should not twist your hands or wrist to achieve this.

The backswing is more likely to cause a slice than a downswing, but you should check to see if you have a proper downswing. A good downswing starts with your hips. A follow through is essential.

Even after you figure out what is causing your slice, you’ll need practice to fix it. Don’t be tempted to fall back into what feels right–that’s what causes your slice. If you keep practicing with a proper grip, stance, and swing, you’ll find that the proper way will feel natural.

By: Matt Menden

About the Author:

The slice is probably the most common problem that all golfers encounter when playing. In fact, some golfers spend years in frustration trying to remedy slice. Usually, slice happens just when you think your tee shot is just fine. Suddenly, the ball starts to curve to the right and promptly misses the target.

There are many ways to cure slice. Let us start with developing a good grip. As you hold the club, your left hand and thumb should be along the shaft and is aligned toward your right eye. Your right hand should wrap over the left, with the palm resting securely over your left thumb. Your grip should not be too tight or too loose. Gripping the ball too tightly can cause the ball to hook. On the other hand, a weak grip will open the clubface and cause slice. Take the time to practice your grip. Make small adjustments and try new grips until you find one that works and that you are comfortable with.

Another important component in stopping slice is to develop and practice a good stance. You can achieve this by standing square to the ball with your feet spread as wide as your shoulders. Keep your right foot pointing straight ahead and your left foot pointing a little to the left. Make sure your elbows and shoulders are in a natural, relaxed and comfortable position. Remember that posture is very important. Try to avoid throwing your lead shoulder up in the air prior to hitting the ball. Ask your friends to watch you as you hit a drive to see if you have the so-called ‘uppity shoulder’.

Finally, by simply correcting your golf swing, your goal to stop slice is half done. Remember that a correct backswing involves the hands, arms, and shoulders in one fluid and smooth motion. Meanwhile, the right downswing involves turning the hips, keeping your eye on the ball and making sure that your head is behind the ball as you proceed to your follow-through.

These are just a few of the tips and techniques on how to stop golf slice. You can also try various drills to develop specific areas of your play. These drills strengthen and develop your golf skills for the better. Just keep in mind that you need to devote time and effort through constant practice in order to achieve your goal of stopping slice.

By: Tim Lee

About the Author:

Correcting a golf slice is the fastest way to shave strokes off of your golf game. Slicing a golf ball is one of the most common errors that an average player makes.

Some golfers remain frustrated for years because they never find out why they are slicing a golf ball. But if you are ever going to become a good golfer, correcting a golf slice is a must. These simple tips will show you how to cure golf slices just by practicing some basic golf swing tips and instructions.

Proper Golf Stance

A proper golf stance should be about as wide as your shoulders. Make sure your shoulders are aligned at your target. Point your right foot straight ahead and point your left foot slightly to the left. Keep your elbows as natural as possible to maintain a proper golf stance.

Even minor adjustments to your stance can make major changes in where your golf ball will end up. Practice the proper golf stance at the driving range and make small adjustments until you get the results you are looking for.

Proper Golf Club Grip

Another common way of correcting a golf slice is adjusting your hands for a proper golf club grip. Grip the golf club with your left hand and put your thumb along the shaft.

The line between your thumb and index finger should be pointing toward your right eye. Wrap your right hand over your left and rest your left thumb into your right palm.

A common mistake most right handed golfers make is gripping the club too tight with the right hand causing the ball to hook towards the left. But the opposite is true with a slice. A weak grip creates an open club face causing your ball to slice to the right.

The best way of correcting a golf slice caused by your grip is roll your hands back so that your non dominant back hand faces the target and your dominant back hand faces the opposite direction.

Practice the proper golf club grip at the driving range to determine if this is what’s causing you to slice the ball. Take your time and make small adjustments to your grip. Even though a proper golf club grip seems simple, it is one of the most common ways of correcting a golf slice.

Correct Golf Swing Mechanics

Correct golf swing mechanics is another cure for correcting a golf slice. A proper golf backswing starts with your hands, is immediately followed by your arms and shoulders all in one smooth motion.

A proper golf downswing begins with your hips, keeping your eyes on the ball and your head behind the ball as you follow through. Once you practice the correct golf swing mechanics, you’ll be amazed at how quick you will lower your golf score.

Becoming a good golfer is a matter of practicing and playing on a regular basis while developing good habits. Small changes can often make a big difference in your score. Once you practice correcting a golf slice you’ll soon be hearing, “great shot!”

Copyright 2005 1 Stop Shopping Online.com.

All golfers want to know how to correct a golf slice.

There’s nothing more frustrating as a golfer than to be playing well, only to see your next shot go further to the right than it goes straight. It makes you want to snap your golf club in two.

Or at least, wrap it around a tree. Even Tiger gets that feeling (although I’m guessing his mis hits aren’t nearly as bad as our slices).

When fixing a golf slice, you have to figure out what the heck you’re doing wrong first.

1) Is your stance out of wack?

Your feet should be about shoulder width apart.

Your right foot should face straight ahead and your left foot should face slightly to the left of straight ahead (if you’re golfing lefty, reverse this).

Your shoulders should be squared.

2) Is your grip too weak?

A weak grip can be a major cause of a nasty gofl slice. When correcting a golf slice, you definitely need to check your grip.

If you have a weak grip, try a more neutral grip. Face your left hand toward the target and your right hand away from it.

3) Is your swing the problem? A big cause of slicing the ball is coming across the ball at contact from outside to inside.

This puts a nasty slicing spin on the ball and will send it way off to the right. A closed club face coming across the ball, outside to inside, is a nasty recipe for a golf slice.

Be sure that your golf swing is inside to outside at contact.

If you can implement these three simple tips on how to correct a slice into your golf game, you will start to see an improvement in your shots.

You’ll have more consistency and see fewer shots veer to the right and on to the adjacent hole instead of the one your playing.

By: Tim Hathaway

About the Author:

If you’re a golfer, then you most likely are interested in how to correct a slice. This is a big issue for most golfers and one that may take some time to learn how to overcome this problem but with some helpful golf tips, it’s entirely possible. You may want to invest in some golfing instructions to aid you in curing golf slice. This is one of the best ways to help you. When you get some one on one instruction from a professional, you’ll be much better equipped to cure golf slice much easier.

This is one of most common problems a golfer may face and it will take some time and dedication to cure it, but it’s entirely possible to do with the right instruction. However, it’s possible for you to become a much better player on your own, you just know how to practice some great techniques.

Listed below are some great tips to help you learn how to correct a slice:

Proper stance – This is extremely important to a golfer and should be taken very seriously. A proper stance should be about as wide as your shoulders. Make sure your shoulders are aligned properly, then point your right foot straight ahead, and your left foot slightly to the left. You should keep your elbows as natural as possible to have the best stance you possibly can. Proper golf grip – This is very important to your game and you should grip the club with your left hand and put your thumb along the shaft. This will give you the best way to improve your game and make you a much better player. People often overlook just how much effect this does have on golf slicing. This is a very common problem especially for right hand golfers because they tend to put too strong of a grip on the club. Correct golf swing mechanics – This is something that can also be a great help in correcting your golf slicing. The best way to make certain you have the best swing is start it with your hands and immediately follow it with your arm and shoulders, all in one motion. This will go a long ways in aiding your game. In order to know how to correct a slice, you must know the proper golfing techniques. That’s where it all begins. If you start to stray from any of the above proper methods, you can easily get off track with your golf slice. So, make certain that you follow the above advice and put it to use as much as you can, because practice makes perfect!

By: Gerald Spotts

About the Author:

Correct ball position plays a big role in keeping that chain reaction of the golf swing working. If you play the ball too far back in your stance, you’ll have a tendency to hit shots to the right of the target. Conversely, if the ball is too far forward, there is a chance that your shots will miss the target to the left.

Most professionals advocate playing the ball between your left foot and the middle of your stance, depending on the club. For example, the most popular ball position for the driver is just inside the heel of your front foot. This position allows you to hit the ball further forward in your stance, producing impact on a slight upswing, taking advantage of the loft and design of the club.

The suggested ball position for the remaining clubs progresses from left to right. Subsequently, the long irons are played a ball or so to the right of the driver’s position. Mid-irons are played about one or two balls to the right of the long irons, finishing with the short irons, which are played at about the middle of your stance.

The objective of each of these positions is to allow you to hit the ball at the lowest point of your swing, taking advantage of the club’s loft and allowing you to make crisp contact with the ball.

It’s also important to note that the objective for every full swing, not including bunker shots, is to hit the ball first. Your divot should always come after impact with the ball. This concept is sometimes not understood by many amateurs who try to scoop the ball, therefore negating the loft and sabotaging the intended design of the club.

Many PGA Tour professionals have their own theories on ball position. For example, rising star Anthony Kim is a tremendously talented player who plays shots in which the ball position is anywhere from his left heel to his right heel. Anthony usually bases his ball position on the club, trajectory and even the spin he wants to put on the ball.

Jack Nicklaus advocates a constant ball position, regardless of the club used. Jack suggests changing your stance, depending on the club being used. Tiger Woods follows a more traditional approach, using much of the traditional ball placement theory mentioned above.

By: Walter Lis

About the Author:

All novice golfers have experienced this problem when they play. After hitting a few decent shots, the ball starts to slice and gets further away from the fairway with each swing. Which on the other hand starts to cause you even more problems, you are getting frustrated and your back hurts. Ever wonder why this is happening? It’s all about cause and effect. Of course no one is immune to a slice, either, but there are some general rules that can help you tackle this problem.

Most amateur golfers frequently change their body alignment and ball position during play. Align your shoulders and feet square to each other. Place your left foot farther from the ball than your right foot and your left shoulder closer to the ball than your right. This setup will allow you to swing the club from the inside instead of over-the-top, across your body, so you should immediately feel the difference – more power and freer motion.

To fix your golf slice, you have to develop a swing path thats less out-to-in and to learn to square the clubface at impact. The idea is to improve the swing path by moving it more down the line and less over the top. Determine whether your are swinging incorrectly, or if the clubface angle is false at the point of impact. A pro golf teacher can answer this question immediately by analyzing your divots and ball flight characteristics.

Maintaining the right body balance is a key factor for stopping the slice. During a swing, your body balance has to provide the foundation for solid rotational motion. If you are well balanced, the entire motion will be executed correctly without interfering with the club’s orbit. As you pivot to the top of the back swing, approximately 75% of your weight must move to the back foot (right foot for right-handers). At the point of impact, nearly 75% of your weight should shift to the front foot.

If we have to sum things up, a golf slice is typically due to one of the following flaws: wrong grip, wrong hand action, wrong arm action, over or under swinging, incorrect clubface angle or all of the above. It’s a good idea to put your knowledge to test in the driving range as it will save you a lot of money. If you are feeling frustrated about your swing after several unsuccessful attempts, take a break, think about what you are doing wrong and stay positive.

By: Steve Gargin

About the Author:

Golf Fundamentals Simplified -Learning the Mechanics of a Good Golf Swing Nothing gives a golfer more pleasure than playing a round of golf where everything seems effortless. To get to that stage in golf ability it is necessary to learn the fundamentals of the swing. The swing can be divided into eight stages:

1.The Grip

2. Stance

3. Address

4. Backswing

5. Downswing

6. Impact

7. Follow through

8. Finish
To achieve a good mental picture of how these individual stages work together they can be classified into distinct functions:

1. Preparation

Grip

Stance
Address
2. Execution

Backswing

Downswing

Impact

Follow through
3. Finish

Thinking of the functions involved in the above listed order will simplify the application of mechanics in actual play. It will clarify the player’s approach because it reduces the number of things which he has to think about at one time and centers the attention on major functions instead of minor details. Grip The most important features of the grip are:
1. Type
Overlapping – the pinkie overlaps your left index finger, hooking around the joint located just below your index knuckle that bends the finger. This grip I know as the Vardon Hold.
Interlocking – weaves the right pinkie and the left index as they wrap round one another.
Baseball or ten finger grip – uses the full right hand on the grip and is suitable for a high percentage of women because their hands are smaller.
2. Intended Purpose
To permit free and uniform hand action throughout the swing.
To insure solid contact of the club head with the ball.
Stance

1.Types
Square Stance – both feet are equidistant from an imaginary line, which would be parallel to the intended line of flight.
Open Stance – the left foot is slightly withdrawn from an imaginary line which would be parallel to the intended line of flight.
Closed Stance – the left foot is placed nearer to an imaginary line which would be parallel to the intended line of flight than the right foot.
Narrow Stance – the feet are placed close together.
Wide Stance – the feet are placed wide apart.
2.Intended Purpose

Type of stance taken should provide good balance, be comfortable, and provide firm footing.

It should permit an easy shift of weight onto the hind leg.
Address

This is the final stage of preparation.
1.Manner of address

Stand opposite the ball with feet at the right angles to the intended line of flight. It is recommend to slightly flare the toes out..

Bend the body slightly forward by allowing your hips to do this as it produces counter balance – the weight of your upper body is balanced by the weight of lower body behind you.

Let your knees bend your body backward (sit on the shelve) your knees should be flexed over your shoelaces and your rear should stick out. Women have a hard time with this position. Don’t crouch. Think more of sinking into the position.

Let your hands hang naturally in front of the body.

Keep the grip firm but not tight.

Place the club face on the ground, immediately behind the ball and at right angles to the intended line of flight. Have the center of the club face directly behind the ball.

Start the backswing soon after the club head has been placed behind the ball. Waggle the club head to relax the hands.
2. Location of the ball

Distance of the body from the ball: The center of the club head designates the approximate spot where he ball is located. It should feel natural and not stretching to reach the ball. As the clubs get shorter stand closer to the ball.

Relation of ball to the body: The location of the ball with shortest irons is slightly right of center and moves forward as the club gets longer the ball moves forward. With a Driver or fairway woods the ball should be in a line just inside the left heel.
Backswing

1. Types of backswing

Flat arc used when executing shots which require distance.

Semi-flat arc used when executing shots which require a combination of distance and loft.

Upright arc used when executing shots which require loft.

These arcs are determined by the width of the stance and the amount of body turn. The golfer should not try to execute a particular arc.
2. Intended purpose

The purpose of the backswing is to get the hands and other parts of the body in a position to supply a sufficient amount of power to propel the ball a required distance.
3. Method of taking the backswing

Start the backswing with the hips turning to the right until the back faces the target. This should be done smartly with the left hand dominating. The club should move off the ball low and slow.

The left shoulder turns to the right until it drops under the chin.

The weight shifts to the inside of the right foot.

Keep the hands and wrists fully extended in the same position as they were at address until at least the halfway position in the backswing.

Gradually hinge the wrists until they are fully cocked at the end of the backswing about shoulder high depending on the player’s flexibility. It is desirable to have the left arm straight and extended.

Don’t loosen the grip at the top of the backswing.

The left knee should move right behind the ball.

This backswing motion should be one continuous rhythmic action.

The transition to the downswing will take place automatically.
Downswing

1. Method of performing the downswing

Keep the head and shoulders behind the swing.

Keep the hands and wrists in their same original position as at the end of the backswing until impact at which time the wrists straighten out.

Keep the arms in close to the body – connected.

As the weight shifts toward the left side the hips should move first then the shoulders to the left then the arms and hands.

Thrust the right knee to the left – push off the inside of the right foot.
2. Intended purpose

To uncock the wrists a split second before impact which will increase the club head speed to the maximum producing longer straighter shots.
Impact

1. Method of achieving

Keep the head in its same original position.

Make sure that the right shoulder comes down and under the chin.

Keep hands moving fast without any attempt to add force or to steer the clubhead or create other interference.

Keep the wrists in a straight-out position. Avoid the tendency to get the club head ahead of hands at impact.

At impact the left arm is kept straight and the right arm is slightly bent.

Turn loose and let go.
Follow through

1.Method of accomplishing

Keep the head in its original position until the finish.

Keep hands moving fast and outward.

Keep wrists in their straightened-out position until near the finish, when they bend forward.

The hips continue to turn to the left , the right knee bends inward and the right heel raises.
Finish The finish constitutes the function of indicating the degree of correctness with which the swing has been executed.
1. Method

The head has turned to follow the ball flight.

The body has turned around towards the line of flight.

Most of the weight has shifted to the left leg.

The weight is supported mostly by the left heel and the outside portion of the ball of the left foot.

The right leg has relaxed with the knee bent forward and the heel upright.

The hands are opposite to and slightly above the left shoulder, with arms and wrists relaxed.

The club shaft is behind the head , parallel to the shoulders and with the ground. The toe of the club is pointing towards the ground. A state of relaxation and balance exists at the finish.

The swing must be smooth and rhythmic. Avoid over swinging. Good timing will often deliver the most distance.

By: Pat Tate

About the Author:

You’re probably wondering if there is one simple way that you can learn how to cure your golf slice for good. I wish it was that easy. Back when I was one of the 90% of golfers who slice, I remember searching high and low for a simple drill or tip that could help me cure my golf slice. Everywhere I looked, there was a different method on how to cure your golf slice. It wasn’t that there was a lack of information out there, I just didn’t know which drill to spend my valuable time working on. I have found a few simple tips and drills that can hopefully help teach you how to cure your golf slice.

1)This first tip is especially for your driver and the longer clubs in your bag. Make sure that you are playing the ball relatively forward in your stance.

On my drives, I play the ball off of my left foot. Along with playing the ball more forward in your stance, apply a little bit more weight to your back foot than your front foot. Both of these tips combined will help make it more difficult for you to come “over-the-top” and swing on an outside-to-inside swing path, both of which are the main ingredients for a big, nasty slice.

2)This next tip is relatively simple and easy to implement but it can be very effective in fighting your golf slice. This will not only teach you how to cure your golf slice, but it will help improve your consistency and accuracy.

This tip has to do with your follow through. You need to make sure that you are following through until you cannot turn anymore. Also, your chest and shoulders should face your target, while you hold your follow through until the ball hits the ground. In order to combat the slice, however, as you hold your follow through, make sure your hands are higher than the club head so that the club points to the ground at around a 45 degree angle. Follow this simple, yet effective tip and you will be far along in your journey to cure your golf slice.

By: Nick Tuttle

About the Author:
